Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated a free health check-up camp and TB awareness campaign for women waste pickers on July 7 at the Fine Arts Cultural Centre in Chembur, Mumbai.

The camp was launched alongside the NAMASTE Scheme as part of the ‘TB Mukt Mumbai’ campaign, an initiative started by Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in association with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

During the event, the Governor and film star Jackie Shroff distributed Ayushman Bharat Health Cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to the women waste pickers present.

The event was attended by Sushila Sable, Vice President of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers, and Asha Marathe, Corporator and Chairperson of the Ward Committee.

Also present were Prajakta Lavangare Verma and Dr. Vipin Sharma, both Additional Municipal Commissioners at BMC, along with Jyoti Mhapsekar and Dr. Prashant Narnaware, Secretary to the Governor.

Dr. Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Solid Waste Management at BMC, was present as well, alongside women waste pickers from the Deonar area.
